What made you look at installing solar panels?
The price of oil and other methods of heating in general as an alternative method.
What was your main reason for considering solar panels?
Oil prices, and having no main gas installed. Solar panels seen a good alternative or addition.
Was there much disruption while the work was carried out?
Very little as it seems to be a seperate system that is then coupled into the existing system.
How long did it take to install?
Three days with minimum time coupling to the existing system.
Do you find the system easy to control and understand?
Yes, all was explained to me but the system is fully automatic so there is very little for me to do except note the pressures occasionally.
Would you recommend it to your family and friends?
Yes, I would recommend solar heating to my family and friends.
Has it saved you on your fuel cost?
In the short time it has been installed it has certainly saved a lot on oil consumption.
Do you find it gives you your hot water requirements for daily use?
During good sunny weather it definately gives us our daily requirements.
Do you still need to use your boiler in the summer months?
Throughtout June and July the boiler was not used at all. August being very wet and dull we occasionally need to use the boiler for short periods of time, but only 10-20% of what was needed before solar panels were fitted.
Mr Wilkinson moved to Northern Lincolnshire around 2 years ago. His new house had a very nice 15m x 9m outside pool and he looked forward to many days of relaxing in the pool. However this enjoyment was tempered by the cost of heating the 15,000 gallons of water it contained, the first season used a full tank of fuel costing more than a thousand pounds and with fuel costs spiralling upwards it was time to look for a better solution.
After some research Mr Wilkinson identified Solar Solutions as the best solution and contacted us for advice. The house was Grade II listed and so positioning was going to be very important. After discussing his needs we specified 6 solar panels mounted discreetly on the pump-house roof where they would be hidden from normal view, these would not only heat the pool but would also run a shower and radiators. The radiators served a dual purpose of absorbing excess heat and providing a consistent temperature in the outbuildings.
The work was completed in early April and the panels went to work. Mr Wilkinson noticed a difference straight away “I expected to have to heat the pool up first and the panels would then maintain the heat. To my surprise the panels heated the pool from cold and have maintained the temperature all season, which by the way is now significantly longer than before. It also means the pool is ‘always on’ as we don’t have to make the decision on whether to heat it or not. The shower is a real bonus and the radiators keep the outbuildings warm all winter. Solar Solutions provided a first class service and I am really pleased with the results.”
